We often hear about outdoor air pollution caused by smog, automobiles, smoke and other factors. However, the air quality inside your home can be even worse than outdoor air. Most people spend about 90 percent of their time indoors, making it extra important to eliminate indoor air contaminants.
One simple way to make a big difference is to change your air filters regularly.
When your filters are dirty and clogged, they stop working properly and should be cleaned or replaced. Once you locate your air filters, they should lift or pull out easily. Be sure you have correct replacement filter. If your filter is too small, it will lead to air circulating around it instead of going through it.
Here are some great benefits to changing or cleaning your air filters:
- Remove particles from the air, such as dust, pollen, smog, pet dander, and other harmful contaminants
- Increase energy efficiency while lowering utility bills
- Prolong the life of your heating and cooling system
- Decrease the noise of your system while operating
Changing your home air filters is an important and easy maintenance job. So be sure check them every month or so. Another helpful tip is to write the date on your filter so you don’t forget when it was last replaced.
