During the summer, energy usage skyrockets in the typical home as hot weather conditions prompt you to use your air conditioner constantly. If you have a single-speed air handler, you may be paying too much for your home cooling. Since these handlers operate at only one speed, you have to use your air conditioner at peak capacity regardless of how much or how little you need to cool down your home.
Variable-speed air handlers offer an effective solution to this problem. They are configured to automatically adjust the rate at which cooled air is generated and circulated according to current indoor conditions and your relative cooling needs. They also eliminate the blasts of cold air that burst out of your vents when you turn on your single-speed air handler, as they are configured to start out at a slower speed and slowly ramp up to the maximum required cooling capacity.
In addition to significant energy savings, variable-speed air handlers offer other benefits. They improve indoor air quality, because the lower operational speeds allow your air filter to trap greater quantities of allergens and dust, preventing them from being circulated into the rooms of your home through your vents. They are also capable of sucking up to 15 gallons of water out of your indoor air, which goes a long way towards helping you keep your indoor humidity within optimal levels while reducing your risk of developing mold deposits and structural problems associated with excessive indoor air moisture. Finally, they operate much more quietly than single-speed air handlers do.
